Lady Antebellum’s Hillary Scott Honored At SESAC Awards
It’s that time of year again…CMA Week in Nashville; and last night the SESAC Awards were held to kick it off. Rather than go to an individual who is strictly behind penning the hits this year top honor, Songwriter of the Year, went to Hillary Scott, who as one-third of Lady Antebellum also spends plenty of time front and center on the stage singing the hits she’s helped write. “Need You Now”, the title track from the group’s platinum-selling, sophomore album was recognized as Song of the Year.
Hillary’s thoughts on the ceremony:
“This night is one of the most special to me. The three of us as a band and individually, we consider ourselves songwriters first, so any time a bunch of songwriters can get together under one roof and celebrate the accomplishments and the art is a great night to me. It’s always a beautiful way to start off CMA Week.”
Bandmates Charles Kelley and Dave Haywood attended and also performed “Need You Now” with Scott. The trio shares songwriting credit for the track with Josh Kear but Hillary is the only member of SESAC of the three. In addition to “Need You Now”, Scott was recognized for writing “I Run To You” and “Our Kind Of Love”, also number one hits. She also was given a custom-made acoustic guitar from Gibson by SESAC Vice President, Tim Fink
