Taylor Swift Wins Country Songwriter Of The Year
There's just no stopping Taylor Swift. Last night at the BMI Songwriters Awards Taylor won the Country Songwriter of the Year award, becoming the youngest person ever to claim it. And she and co-writer Liz Rose shared Country Song of the Year for “You Belong With Me,” recognized as the most-played country title over a full year, according to the performing rights organization.
Taylor has had an emotional week as the day before she had just sang at a friends funeral.
“It’s been a really emotional week,” she told the crowd. “He was 21, and I used to play my songs for him first. So I would like to thank Jeff Lang.”
Other awards of the evening went to songwriters and music publishers to honor significant airplay for such titles as “Cowboy Casanova,” “Gettin’ You Home (The Black Dress Song),” “Big Green Tractor,” “American Ride,” “One In Every Crowd” and “White Liar.”
Songwriter Liz Rose Launches Her Own Publishing Company
Accomplished songwriter Liz Rose, probably known best for her collaborations with Taylor Swift (“Teardrops On My Guitar”, “You Belong With Me” and “Fearless” to name a few), has gone independent and recently launched her own publishing company, Liz Rose Music, Inc. (BMI). When asked about her new venture, Rose had this to say,
“I am finally doing this. I am excited to be able to have this opportunity and help to nurture a family of amazing writers”
. Company General Manager and Creative Director Scott Ponce spoke highly of Rose and the goal behind getting involved with the new launch.
“We are launching with one of the industry’s most seasoned of songwriters in Liz. Our goal is to manage our assets to their fullest potential and continue to develop the talent we are signing.”
It hasn’t gone unnoticed either; Grammy award winner, SESAC Songwriter of the Year and BMI Song of the Year are all evidence of the recognition to back the claim. In addition to working with Taylor, the award –winning songwriter has also penned cuts for Martina McBride, Gary Allan, Tim McGraw, Lee Ann Womack and Trisha Yearwood among others.
