A very happy belated birthday to Little Jimmy Dickens who turned 90 years old this past weekend on December 19th. Dickens is the oldest living member of the Grand Ole Opry. Dickens celebrated with a party held at Rippy's BBQ in Nashville which included an appearance by Dickens' good friend Brad Paisley who surprised him with a birthday cake and a Martin guitar.

The ACA's have come and gone and while it seemed a bit laid back compared to some of the other award shows, overall it was a good show. It seemed like the awards were few and far between but looking at the list of categories and winners proves otherwise.
The fan voted awards used to rub me wrong, but when you think about it, it's probably a good thing that the fans choose the winners of so many award shows now. Because industry shows seem to have the same 6 artists win everything. Where at least the fan voted shows tend to mix it up a bit depending on how fervent and spirited they are about voting.
All of the performers did surprising well! The medleys were a little much, but fans in attendance seemed to love them.
The big winners of the night were Carrie Underwood - taking home 6 awards, Lady Antebellum - snagging 4 awards, and Easton Corbin - 3 awards.
Here is a list of the categories and winners:
Artist of the Year
Artist of the Year: Male
Artist of the Year: Female
Artist of the Year: Duo or Group
The fan-voted American Music Awards took place last night in Los Angeles, California and Taylor Swift and Brad Paisley took home the top country honors with Swift winning Favorite Female Country Artist and Paisley winning Favorite Male Country Artist. Swfit, sporting a new, more sophisticated look, sang her new song "Back To December."
Other country winners included Carrie Underwood for Favorite Country Album with "Play On," and Lady Antebellum for Favorite Band, Duo or Group Lady A was on hand to accept the award, where Hillary Scott said "Thank you all so very much. We really appreciate this.. This is awesome. I want to thank my bandmates, I want to thank our label and our management." "Thank you all for inviting us to the party," Charles Kelley chimed in, "We love you so much!"
What did you think of the AMAs as a whole? I thought Taylor looked and sounded great. Her plain black fashion statement was elegant on a night where gaudy was the rule.
In what must be some sort of land speed record, Brad Paisley has recorded his new song "This Is Country" and has it streaming now on his web site. Paisley performed the song during last week's 44th Annual CMA Awards and was overwhelmed by the demand for the song, causing him to immediately hit the studio to record it. What seemed like a gamble, playing an unknown song on the award show stage instead of one of his hits, seems to have paid off for Paisley. Then again, he's never been afraid to take a risk!
Fans can hear the track now, and read a very special and heartfelt message from Brad, at his official website: http://www.bradpaisley.com
When Brad Paisley took to the CMA Stage at Bridgestone Arena last week for his solo performance he knew that he’d be taking a risk. Rather than promote his current single “Anything Like Me” (which sits at #5 on the Billboard country chart) he chose to sing a song that, until last Wednesday, very few people had even heard. “I knew I had to sing it tonight for my fans and for the music I love” The recently penned tune titled “This Is Country” was co-written with Chris DuBois and will be featured on Brad’s upcoming album release in Spring 2011. The song was met with overwhelming applause from the audience filled with country music fans and industry professionals. It was so well received that two days later Paisley took to Twitter to announce that “This Is Country” would be his next single saying “wait til you hear the record Frank (Rogers, Brad’s long-time producer) cut on it. I almost broke down crying on this vocal”.
The 2011 Country Stampede in Manhattan, KS won’t even take place for another 218 days but plans are in full swing and it looks as though June 23-26 is shaping up to be quite the party. The main stage line-up has already been confirmed to include Brad Paisley, Lady Antebellum and Blake Shelton. Yes, that’s right…the 2010 CMA Entertainer of the Year, Vocal Group of the Year and Male Vocalist of the Year winners are all taking the same stage to perform within days of each other! Kansas sure knows how to land entertainment, don’t they?
And, that’s not all. Also guaranteed a performing spot on the main stage are Joe Nichols and newcomer Jerrod Niemann. Other acts to be featured on various smaller stages throughout the week are “Love Your Love The Most” singer, Eric Church, Sawyer Brown, the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Collin Raye and Troy Olson. If you’re thinking the roster sounds full just wait, even more announcements are to come at a later date.
