Lori McKenna - Just A Housewife Who Likes To Write Songs
Lori McKenna has long since been my favorite female singer. How I managed to miss an interview of this nature involving her is beyond me, but it is well worth sharing again here.
On her website she stated that she's "just a housewife from Stoughton who likes to write songs." If that isn't an understatement, I don't know what is. Her music is personal, and dark, and just masterful. Her newest album is set to release January 25, 2011. I can't wait to hear it. Might even have to do an album review!
The original interview is from www.the9513.com, be sure and pay them a visit for other great articles.
Singer/songwriter Lori McKenna likes to think of herself as a housewife first. Married to her husband for 22 years (she has known him since third grade), mother of five children, and life-long citizen of small town Stoughton, Massachusetts, she takes pride in her home and family more than anything else. At age 27, she began performing locally at open mics and released three albums of self-penned material before her breakthrough in 2004, when friend and fellow artist Mary Gauthier passed her songs to Melanie Howard in Nashville. This led to signing with Harlan Howard’s publishing company and eventually to Faith Hill hearing them in 2005. Hill had just completed recording her album, but added three of McKenna’s songs to the roster: “Stealing Kisses,” “If You Ask,” and what would become her CD’s title cut, “Fireflies.”
Hill said of McKenna, “I don’t remember ever being impacted by a songwriter the way I was with her. Her writing is masterful, with a pureness that is completely unaffected. The songs are such a great combination of depth and realness…there’s just this indescribable collision of innocence and honesty in her writing.”

Chely Wright Releasing Documentary
Chely Wright's journey of coming out as a lesbian will be featured in a documentary, 'Wish Me Away,' by award-winning filmmakers Bobbie Birleffi and Beverly Kopf.
"We were introduced to Chely through our network and connections around our previous documentary, 'Be Real: Stories From Queer America,' which aired on LOGO," Bobbie explains to AfterEllen.com. "The timing was right. We were looking for a new project and as we got to know Chely, she confided in us her thoughts about coming out. We were inspired and felt her story would be a perfect fit for our next film."
'Wish Me Away' is a film three years in the making, and chronicles the 'Single White Female' singer's personal challenges as she prepared to make her private story public. Their goal, they explain, is to include everyone who has been a part of Chely's journey to coming out, including ex-boyfriends, friends and the country music community.
